Consider your grass like a pyramid. It is much more important to develop a strong root system than just a green top. When you fertilize and water in the correct way, the blades will be very easy to keep nice and lush. Don't build an upside-down pyramid! Overfeeding the blades and underfeeding the roots will lead to disease and pest problems and an overall weak turf.
